 Literacy Project Reflection

My project was social media posts. I posted three times and used Instagram as my platform. I had a link to an article in my bio and also a link to a video about reading there. I wanted to spread facts about reading and help support people to read. I used a handful of different messages to get my point across. My captions held more information about reading, just in case a follower was curious and the post did not satisfy them.

My first post was used to spread the idea that reading is masculine. I created an eye-catching post with a short and to-the-point message. I used my #Readers&Leaders in the post, so I could get my hashtag out there. I wanted to start by getting a male audience because they read less than women. My second post got the most activity on it. I posted a short reel with a funny sound behind it, promoting reading. I used a short quote about reading because I believe that it would be the most engaging. I got a lot of activity on this post and I believe that it was because it was more of a funny sound to it. For my last post, it did not get nearly as much activity, but the post was similar. Instead of trying to make it a funny post, I used a trending sound behind my post. I used a cool format on the post reminding people to read and just encouraging them to pick up a book. I also used my hashtag again in the caption of this post, spreading it more.

All my posts have small captions further explaining my posts and the messages behind them. I responded to a few comments asking questions too. I decided to stick with short reels because I believe they are the most engaging with my audience. I got a comment or two picking fun at my posts, but I chose to ignore them. The first article in my bio is about the benefits of reading. I believe that knowing how it is beneficial helps people to do it. It will encourage them to improve themselves through reading. The second link in my bio is to a video about how to start reading if you hate it. I think that is a very relevant video, especially to my audience. It shows that there are ways around a hate for reading, and you can turn it into a love.

The end product is not exactly what I had hoped for, but it is pretty realistic. My account was never going to blow up, but it did get a lot of activity through reposts and shares. I believe my project was sort of a success. I was able to get views and cater to my audience pretty well, which is surprising. I found that posting reels with a funny sound behind them got the most attention. A major problem I faced was when I first created the account. I really had no way to get the account out there. So, I shared the account with a few of my friends and proceeded to follow a ton of people. Then, the followers started to come in. I believe that my project served its purpose. It got my message across clearly and got a decent amount of activity. I think a lot of people view the account as a joke, but views are views. The more activity I get on my posts the more people will see it. I don't think it matters that a few people are not taking it seriously, because they are still helping promote the account by boosting its comments and likes. Over time its effectiveness will definitely decrease. I will not be able to consistently post, therefore leaving the account to die over time. It will just be a hassle to keep the account up and running forever. I believe that the account did its job and has already served its purpose. I did a good job promoting reading to others and believe my social media campaign was the best way to do it.
